Adding rooms and items
Catalog the rooms in your home and the items inside each one.
Rooms and items are the building blocks of your home in DwellHQ. Rooms are the physical spaces; items are the appliances, fixtures, and systems inside them.
Adding a room
- Open your home and go to the Rooms tab.
- Click Add room.
- Pick a room type (kitchen, primary bath, laundry, etc.) and give it a name. Room icons are chosen automatically based on the type.
Adding an item
Items can live inside a room (e.g. a dishwasher in the kitchen) or directly under the home if they are not tied to one room (e.g. the roof). Both are fine.
- From a room or the home overview, click Add item.
- Pick a category. Categories drive task suggestions — DwellHQ will recommend common maintenance based on the category you choose.
- Optionally add the manufacturer, model, serial number, purchase date, and warranty info. None of these are required, but they make later lookups much easier.
- Upload any documents you have — manuals, receipts, warranty cards.
Archiving instead of deleting
If you sell or replace an item, archive it instead of deleting it. The item is hidden from your active list but its service history is preserved — useful when a buyer asks "when was the water heater replaced?".
Archiving also reduces your entity count, which matters if you are on the free plan. See Plans, billing, and canceling for details on the free-plan limits.
Attaching documents
You can attach files (PDF, JPEG, PNG, WebP) at any level: the home, a room, an item, or a service record. Attachments are stored securely and only visible to people who can see that home.
What to do next
- Now that your home and items are in, set up maintenance tasks so DwellHQ reminds you when something is due.
