Setting up maintenance tasks

Schedule recurring, seasonal, and one-time maintenance.

Maintenance tasks tell DwellHQ what needs doing and how often. When a task is due, you get a reminder. When you complete it, DwellHQ logs the service record and schedules the next occurrence automatically.

Recurring tasks

Most home maintenance is recurring: change the HVAC filter every 90 days, flush the water heater once a year, clean the gutters every 6 months. For these tasks:

  1. From the home or an item, click Add task.
  2. Set a name, then pick an interval (e.g. every 90 days, every 6 months).
  3. Choose how many days ahead you want to be reminded. The default is 7 days, which usually gives you enough time to order parts or schedule a service visit.

Seasonal tasks

Some tasks only make sense at certain times of year — e.g. winterize the irrigation system in October, open the pool in May. Mark a task as seasonal and set its active window. Outside that window the task won't be considered overdue, and any windows it sits through unattended are recorded in the task's history.

One-time tasks

Leave the interval blank to create a one-time task. Completing a one-time task deactivates it instead of advancing to the next due date. These are useful for things like "register the warranty" or "schedule the radon test".

Completing a task

  1. Open the task and click Complete.
  2. Optionally add notes, an actual completion date (if different from today), the cost, and any documents (receipts, photos).
  3. DwellHQ creates a service record and, for recurring tasks, advances the next due date based on your interval.
Reminders are based on each home's local timezone, which is auto-detected from the address. A task due on Saturday in Denver won't remind you on Friday night just because the server is in another time zone.

Exporting your history

Service records (both completed tasks and skipped seasonal windows) can be exported as CSV or JSON from a home's records page. Handy for compliance, taxes, or for a future buyer.
